I was a mesmer 2ndary the first go round. I have to say, as far as fire nukers, I found myself using pretty much only primary skills. Now I never go anywhere without an interupt, but I can't really say it justifies the mesmer secondary.
Monk might have been better for when I henched (no heros at this point) and I was the only one with foresight to run away, I would have had a rez to continue a mission.
Ranger...I'm sure there are people who have a great combo with ranger skills. I myself have always found better skills to suit my needs. Pets aren't worth it, as their death just slows your nuking.

IMO, best secondary is mesmer. You can use arcane echo to mimic meteor shower and auspicious incanatation to get energy.

Auspicious incantation is good, but it is also factions. If you have factions and wait until you reach LA, that is an option. I took mesmer precisely because of arcane echo/MS, and with HM introduction it works ok in normal mode because the AI is dumbed down again.
Still didn't really use it that often, because 2 sec cast for AE, 5 sec for MS, 5 sec for MS...battle was usually over. If you *do* go this route, glyph of sacrifice for the first MS. 40/40 set could help too.

Sorry, they are weapon mods. Get a wand with a 20% Half Skill recharge (HSR) and 20% Half Cast Time (HCT). You can get those same mods on a focus item. It doesn't actually equal a 40% chance to half cast and recharge times, as they are checked independantly (it's like a 36% chance or something),
but it will allow you to get your [meteor shower] off faster a good chunk of the time.

The 40/40 set is like 36% 1/2 cast, and 4% 1/4 cast I think.
Also - it's between mesmer or monk.
Mesmer for Arcane Echo/Auspicious, Monk for a hard-resurrection skill (hard meaning reusable, instead of a Resurrection Signet)

The focus is easy enough. There is a nice collector one in the crystal desert, though that is pretty far along. If you see me online, pm me and i can give you one of my extra.
As far as a wand is concerned, you will need a wand that requires fire magic, and it will have to be inscribable. You will need a wand wrapping of memory (20% HSR) and the inscription "Aptitude not Attitude". These are going to be a little harder to come by.
Even if you just get the focus, that will be better than nothing. And keep your eyes open for quest rewards that may fit the bill, such as a wand that may half cast/recharge all spells at only 10%. Every little bit helps, and you won't need perfect to get the job done.

it's 32% to halve cast time and 4% to quarter-cast. a total of 36% to reduce cast time. you also have a 36% chance to halve the recharge on your spells. recharges don't stack, they are capped at 50% reduction, whereas with casting time you can halve the original cast time and still have a chance to halve that new cast time, thereby giving you a 75% reduction in the amount of time you spend casting that particular spell.
also there are collectors and crafters in factions, if you have that campaign, which offer 20/20 wands and 20/20 foci.

i'm not an expert with eles , but for farming i imagine mesmers are the better choice , and in my experience for general pve / vanquishing go monk as 2nd prof , which will give you a decent res . really depends what you want to get out of your character , and what you plan to do with it though
